On Swedish Relaxation Massage
by JoAnn M. Christy, LMT, BCTMB
Relaxation massage is exactly what it means. A full-body massage to reduce stress and provide your body and mind some time to take a little holiday. It may only be for an hour or 90 minutes but in this hectic, stress-ridden world it might be just what you need help feel grounded and better connected to your body and mind. When you feel centered it allows you to connect more easily with friends, loved-ones and co-workers.
Despite being a "modern" society, those modern conveniences are taking up more and more of our brain space. We have the ability to remain "plugged-in" with very little time to experience peace, quiet, and relaxation. Our minds can become so overloaded that many of don't take the proper time to connect with our physical selves, let alone our emotional and/or spiritual selves. The longer we go without unwinding the harder it becomes to unwind. Massage therapy can help you unplug long enough to regenerate through deep relaxation. |
It is emotionally and spiritually healthy ( not to mention physically healthy) to block some time that will be protected for you. No cell phone, no computer, no one asking you anything other than if you're warm enough and if you'd like some water or a blanket. You can let go of time, the time in my office is protected because I protect it for you.
Relaxation massage is a great tool for those who are body conscious because nurturing touch can allow us to be more forgiving of our own perceived flaws. My room is very dimly lit, making it relaxing as well as comforting for those who might otherwise be uncomfortable with receiving massage. People who live alone are great candidates for relaxation massage. Human beings thrive on compassionate and nurturing touch. If we live alone and/or are not in a relationship, it's very difficult to get the need for touch satisfied. Giving the gift of massage is a lovely idea. Please make sure the recipient is comfortable with the idea of massage before purchasing the gift certificate since not all people want to be massaged! |
